Welcome to the comp.sys.sinclair Crap Games Compo 2007. I'm hosting the competition this year. You may know me, I came last in last year's compo with a simulation of "possibly the world's most boring job".

I thought I'd kick off the 2007 CSSCGC by reviewing some professional crap games. Why don't you take a look? It might give you some ideas. Come back here when you're ready.

Ah, there you are. Let's crack on, shall we?

Competition

Basically the idea is to write the worst game possible for a Sinclair computer. It is expected that most entries will be for the Spectrum and written in BASIC. If you are out of ideas, you might want to look up some previous compos or consult So you Wanna Write A Crap Game...?

You have until extended until 22nd December 2007, 23:59 GMT to get your entries in. This will hopefully allow the results to be announced before next year's competition starts.

The address for submissions is cgc@unsatisfactorysoftware.co.uk. Entries will appear on the 2007 Crap Game Finder page, with at least the title and probably a screenshot and short "back of inlay" description. Proper reviews will come later, perhaps much later. Whether you will be able to download them from there as we go along and whether there will be a public element to the vote has yet to be decided, but will probably be "no" on both counts as I like to build the suspense.

Rules

  • Entries must be games
  • Entries must be crap
  • Entries must run on a Sinclair computer (that means no crap SAM games please!)
  • Only the first version of a game will be reviewed. If you feel the need to add bugs after submission, use some imagination and call it a sequel
  • If we can't run it, we can't judge it, and you will need to resubmit in a different format. I won't bore you with a list of formats, but all the usual ones should be OK
  • Multiple entries (f'nar!) are encouraged
  • By submitting an entry you automatically agree to have it redistributed and laughed at
  • Entries submitted after the closing date of 11:59pm on 15th December 2007 will not be included unless there is the expected extension to the competition, or we are desperate for entries, or it is particulary enjoyable, or the late submission tax of 75p and a packet of Rolos is included along with the game
  • The judges decision is final
  • The prize is undecided (read: was decided after the event), and there will be a special booby prize of having to host CSSCGC 2008...
  • We reserve the right to change these rules at any time

GOOD LUCK!

The Results

The results have been announced. View the full reviews (also on the Crap Game Finder), or download the archive of entries.

If you can't be bothered to read any of that or play them all, congratulations go to David Mackenzie for Dobsonic Defendor who receives a crap prize (quite literally a piece of crap, albeit one that has been recycled into something a bit useful).
