INDUSTRY WORRIES AS BARCODE NUMBERS RUN OUT

With only 10,000,000,000,000 different combinations, and many of those unusable, on the standard 13-digit barcode, time is running out. A new product, requiring a new barcode, is developed every day. The international barcode authority, and the UK watchdog - OFBAR - have decided that a change to the existing barcode system is needed. It has not yet been discussed (there's a barcode conference in a couple of week's time), but it looks like a digitally encoded system is planned. No further details will be available until the conference.

LONDON BARCODE WEEK

In an interesting slant on London Fashion Week (only better), BarcodeD Int (Barcode Developers International) are organising a barcode week in London, where manufacturers will be showing off the barcodes to their products, and you can purchase them at a discount price. Tickets are £10 each.
